I came across an article with practical tips for choosing your wedding rings. While there really is some good advice, the following comment struck me as odd:
“Nine karat does not look as nice and will not hold up as well as 18 karat, but more karats means bigger price tag."
Um, what? A lesser karat gold will not hold up as well? I really think that they should clarify what they mean. The higher the karats, the higher the purity of gold. And the higher the purity of gold, the less alloys and other elements in the ring. When gold has high purity, it scratches more easily. And unlike with platinum, the gold will scratch off and lose its mass over time
Now I would say that lesser yellow karat golds do not look as rich in color. Now THAT I would agree with. Hopefully the author means that. But to me, it is a little confusing.
Read all of “Wedding rings? Is it difficult to choose???” But please, research the properties of all of the metals that are commonly available for wedding rings before you shop.
