When social media is not so social - automated Twitter responses.

 

Have you ever decided to follow someone on Twitter, and then get one of those canned or automated messages thanking you for following them? I always have viewed the automated Twitter response as being like a thank you note or Christmas card that’s printed instead of hand written; there’s no personalization or thought behind it. I have also felt that the object of social media is to reach out and touch someone to promote interaction. Automated social media responses are lazy, and actually may work against the purpose of social media in general.
