Looks like someone at Google is a big Queen fan! Google’s opening page remembers Queen singer Freddie Mercury on what would have been his 65th birthday. Asheville jewelry store gives snowfall jewelry refunds.

 

Jewelry buyers in Asheville, North Carolina got their holiday jewelry purchases for free thanks to a snowfall-based promotion. Perry's Emporium advertised earlier in December that if Asheville had at least 3 inches of snow on the ground this Christmas, customers would get refunds on their jewelry purchases. Jewelry store owner Alan Perry did take out an insurance policy on the promotion, so Perry's Emporium isn't actually losing any money. All the jewelry store's customers have to do is bring in their receipt showing they signed up for the deal.

It’s that time of year again. Jewelry industry trade publication In Store Magazine has named their list of America’s Coolest Stores. They break down the list into Big Store and Small Store categories, and each spotlights leading jewelry retailers that are truly unique and remarkable. Being featured as one of America’s Coolest Stores illustrates an approach that is forward-thinking and very unique. Here are the winners:

Big Jewelry Store Category:
1st place: OC Tanner (Salt Lake City, Utah) – This store’s website allows you to select your own personal shopper, which is a nice touch for those who need a little help buying jewelry.
2nd place: Cornell’s Jewelers (Rochester, New York) –  A big jewelry store that features handwritten “Hello….my name is…” tags.
3rd place: Lilly & Co. (Sanilbel, Florida) – A store that has literally gone to the dogs – there are three on premise. Arf! Arf!
4th place: Jackie Abraham (Bay Harbor Islands, Florida) – A stylish store that could win “The Best Bathroom in the Jewelry Industry” as well.
5th place: Lee Michaels (Shreveport, Louisiana) – A jewelry store that has never had a sale. “Once you do, you never stop,” comments CEO/President Lee Michael Berg.

Small Jewelry Store Category:
1st place: Don Muller Gallery (Northampton, MA) – A small boutique-type store with just two employees, and what they call “organic diversity.”
2nd place: Alara Jewelry (Bozeman, MT) – One name sets this store apart – BABS. An outgoing and definitely one-of-a-kind jewelry store owner.
3rd place: Churchill (Fairway, KS) – New job applicants are required to be able to accessorize a mannequin.
4th place: Goldworks (Chapel, NC) – Owned by a married couple that design their own jewelry. But be careful – don’t rearrange the displays!
5th place: EE Robbins (Seattle, WA) – Retro-style advertising and great promotional ideas make this store fun, fun, fun. Ask about “The Proposer!”
