Okay, here we go! As I’ve said over and over, I am a HUGE fan of precious metals for wedding rings. Why? I simply believe that a wedding ring is a piece of jewelry, and a piece of jewelry that is symbolic and has deep meaning. However, if I am a really active man, a platinum ring will appear to scratch easy, but the reality is that the platinum metal is just being pushed around; platinum wedding rings can be refinished over and over without losing metal mass. This sounds like a great deal, doesn’t it? Sure, you pay more for platinum now, but you literally get a lifetime of benefits.

However, another reality is that jewelers may not always explain the benefits of platinum. I have heard some say that it scratches too easy. 14kt gold will scratch less right out of the box, but when you do scratch it, the metal comes off, so over time your ring will lose mass. And a palladium wedding ring, which is a better choice over white gold if platinum is just not a possibility due to price, has similar qualities as platinum at a much lower price. So if you can’t have platinum but want a white metal, then palladium is a really good choice.

Some of the best wedding rings for active men might be made with alternative metals – tungsten, titanium, stainless steel and ceramic. In fact, black ceramic wedding rings are becoming more and more popular. All of these materials hold up well initially, but none of them can be sized. Alternative metal wedding rings are affordable, but in the long haul they may not be the right material for your wedding ring.

In conclusion, my vote simply is to choose a platinum wedding ring, but there are a lot of great choices for anyone's taste and budget.

I didn’t realize this, but apparently titanium jewelry invaded The Oscars this year. While I tend to think of jewelry as being created with a precious metal, it’s easy to see why titanium jewelry is becoming more and more popular. As the author of How Titanium Jewelry Invaded the Oscars writes:
