Dua Lipa’s Engagement Ring: Why the Thick Gold Band Matters More Than the Diamond Size

Dua Lipa’s engagement ring is a useful celebrity-jewellery story because the most interesting part is not a record-breaking stone. It is the construction: a round-cut diamond set into a thick 18-karat yellow-gold band custom-designed by Milan jewellery brand EÉRA.

Vogue reported in July 2026 that Callum Turner commissioned the ring with input from Lipa’s close friends and sister. That detail matters more than the celebrity name. It shows a version of personalisation that is about knowing how somebody actually dresses, rather than adding initials after the design has already been chosen.
It combines a traditional round diamond with a much more sculptural gold profile, creating something recognisable without relying on an unusually complicated stone shape.
The band is not a supporting actor
For years, many engagement rings tried to make the shank disappear visually: thin pavé, minimal metal and as much attention on the centre stone as possible. Lipa’s ring does the opposite. The broad gold band is part of the identity.
Thicker does not necessarily mean less elegant
Width changes the visual balance of a ring. A substantial band can make a moderate centre stone look deliberately proportioned rather than “smaller”. It also gives the design more surface area for finish and shape.
Custom design worked because somebody understood the wearer
The most useful lesson is not “copy Dua Lipa’s ring”. It is to ask people close to the wearer what they already choose for themselves: yellow or white metal, delicate or substantial jewellery, vintage or modern shapes, symmetry or irregularity.
Could this kind of ring work with a wedding band?
That depends on the side profile. A broad engagement ring can dominate the finger, so a wedding band may work best when deliberately narrow, deliberately chunky, curved to fit, or even omitted in favour of a one-ring approach.
