How to Match a Wedding Band to an Engagement Ring

A wedding band does not need to be identical to an engagement ring, but the two pieces should work physically as well as visually.
Start with clearance under the setting
Some engagement rings allow a straight wedding band to sit flush beneath the setting. Others need a shaped band or an intentional gap.
When a curved band helps
A shaped wedding band follows the outline of the engagement ring and can prevent awkward contact with low settings.
Match height before decoration
If one ring is very deep and the other is thin, the edges can meet at a narrow contact point.
Consider metal hardness
GIA notes that stacked rings made from metals with different hardness can wear against one another.
