Many white-gold rings are rhodium plated to produce a very crisp white surface. As that coating wears, the ring can look slightly warmer.
What happens when they scratch?
Neither option is scratch-proof. Platinum tends to develop a softer, satiny patina. White gold can acquire scratches in the same way other gold alloys do.
